The Nand and Jeet Khemka Distinguished Lecture Series

The Nand & Jeet Khemka Distinguished Lecture Series
is an endowed public program of the Center for the Advanced Study of India (CASI). Launched in the 2007-2008 academic year and made possible through the generous support of the Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation, the series brings renowned India specialists to the Penn community. Four lectures are delivered each year. Some of the programmatic themes featured in the inaugural year the 60th anniversary of India's independence were democracy and economy, finance, the legal system and human rights, and foreign policy. Speakers included postcolonial scholar from Columbia University and the Centre for the Studies in Social Services, Professor Partha Chatterjee; former IMF Chief Economist, Dr. Raghuram Rajan; former Justice of the Supreme Court of India, Justice Ruma Pal; and Ambassador of India to the U.S., His Excellency Ronen Sen. At a time when India is rapidly growing in stature, CASI strongly believes that the Khemka Distinguished Lecture Series will further the dialogue on India at the University and beyond. The program serves as a critical forum for analyzing and understanding the complex economic, political, social and cultural changes that the world’s largest democracy is experiencing, as well as the challenges that lie ahead.
