CASI Announces Winners of Summer 2009 Travel Funds Competition

The funds for this year’s students will be distributed amongst three winners for the CASI-Piramal Foundation Summer Internship at the Grassroots Development Laboratory (GDL) in Bagar, Rajasthan; four winners for the CASI Summer Internship at Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group in New Delhi; and two winners conducting graduate-level research in India.

CASI Announces Winners of Summer 2008 Travel Funds Competition!

The Center for the Advanced Study of India is pleased to announce the winners of its Summer 2008 Summer Travel Funds Competition. The funds will be distributed amongst three winners for the CASI-Piramal Foundation Summer Internship at the Grassroots Development Laboratory in Bagar, Rajasthan; undergraduate research projects in India; and graduate (Ph.D.) research in India.

Electoral and Party Finance Reform
Parties in India raise money for both elections and inter-election purposes through private donations, the bulk of which are believed to be unaccounted for despite recent incentives for transparency in the Election and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Act of 2003, which introduced tax-deductibility for political donations against receipts. While parties are tax-exempt, they have to file income tax returns. However, these declarations are thought to be understatements.
